CVIEWCS™
Motor Carrier Data Repository
CVIEWCS™ developed by Cambridge Systematics is an information technology solution that improves efficiency, safety, and customer service for your agency and motor carrier community. CVIEWCS consists of a comprehensive database of motor carrier safety and credential information along with software that ensures the smooth flow of these data to and from other Federal and state motor carrier, vehicle, and driver safety information systems.
CVIEWCS is a proven solution that has been certified by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA). It exceeds all requirements of the Commercial Vehicle Information Systems and Networks (CVISN) program. CVIEWCS interfaces with your existing information systems, exchanges data with Federal safety databases (SAFER and PRISM), and provides an information distribution network to support roadside enforcement activities.
Benefits
- Rapid Deployment - CVIEWCS is a proven solution that can be deployed in as little as four weeks, complete with interfaces to IRP, IFTA, and other state and Federal information systems. Our CVIEW professionals know first-hand the issues you face in your CVISN deployment efforts, and will work with your business experts and IT personnel to anticipate and address these issues. As a result, your state can be enjoying the benefits of CVIEWCS while other states are still in the planning stages.
- Flexible Licensing - Whatever your needs or budget, there is a version of CVIEWCS for you. If your state wants to meet the CVISN requirements at the lowest possible cost, you can license CVIEWCS pre-configured to receive IRP and IFTA data and exchange information with SAFER. This system includes everything your IT staff needs to set up, configure, and operate CVIEWCS using Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, or MySQL.
If you want a more comprehensive solution, we will work with you to design and implement interfaces to additional state and third-party systems; customize the CVIEWCS web interface; install, configure, and test the system; and train your end users and system administrators. We can even host CVIEWCS for you.
- Easy to Expand - Unlike other commercial CVIEW solutions, CVIEWCS has a unique architecture that is designed to expand as your needs grow. The base product can accommodate state-specific data, intrastate credentials, and driver data without any additional modifications or programming - there’s no need to wait for FMCSA or SAFER to define standards for these items.
CVIEWCS also can expand to handle new or updated interfaces without any changes to the core product. Are you thinking about participating in the Uniform Carrier Registry? Are you planning to update or replace your existing credentialing systems? Are you worried about the impact of the FMCSA COMPASS initiative on CVISN? Don’t be. CVIEWCS will run without interruption while you plan and implement these changes.
- Protect Your Investment - Cambridge Systematics designed CVIEWCS to fit into your environment without requiring risky or expensive changes to your existing systems. Our Legacy System Interface (LSI) process supports the most popular data transfer methods (web services, XML, SQL, and text). If you already have implemented standard export scripts, we can use them directly, often without any modifications. CVIEWCS has interfaced with virtually every major credentialing vendor and electronic screening system. We also have worked with a variety of custom in-house systems, and we can work with yours.
Cambridge Systematics – Synonymous With CVISN
Cambridge Systematics has played a major role in advancing the CVISN program since its inception. From the earliest stages of the program, in which we helped define the CVISN architecture, we have provided ongoing support to FMCSA, the national CVISN Program, and the CVISN grant application program. We conduct policy and funding analyses, facilitate the program’s stakeholder input mechanisms (such as the Commercial Vehicle Freight Mobility Forum), and support FMCSA’s new Smart Roadside Initiative. Cambridge Systematics recently completed the National CVISN Program Management Plan, and we provide the senior staff instructors for FMCSA’s ITS/CVO and CVISN Training Programs. These instructors have delivered technical training courses and provided ongoing support to state, Federal, and industry stakeholders in more than 17 states.
In short, we are CVISN experts, and we bring our expertise to the table in every CVIEWCS deployment.
Case Studies
- Connecticut is one of eight CVISN pilot states designated by FMCSA. The state’s ambitious 2001 implementation plan called for a complete overhaul of the major credentialing systems; a CVIEW implementation with links to more than 10 different state and Federal systems; a web-based transponder registration system and electronic screening process; and a one-stop web portal providing functionality for carrier, state, and enforcement personnel. Cambridge Systematics met this challenge and delivered a comprehensive CVIEWCS solution that met every one of these requirements, furnishing Connecticut with the nation’s most comprehensive CVISN system. In the first three years of operation, CVIEWCS has processed more than 200 million Connecticut transactions. >> more
- Arkansas started CVISN implementation in 2005, seeking a cost-effective CVIEW solution that could be deployed rapidly and would help them integrate PRISM with their existing IRP system.
In less than three months, Cambridge Systematics delivered an inexpensive CVIEWCS solution tailored to meet these specific needs. It included our powerful CVIEWCS platform, complete with interfaces to SAFER and PRISM, as well as a web-based query application for the law enforcement community, optimized for use over a wireless network.
The Arkansas CVIEWCS system has been in 24/7 operation for more than a year, processing an average of 100,000 IRP, SAFER, and PRISM transactions every day. Arkansas plans to expand this system to include more interfaces as they move toward completion of the CVISN core requirements.
- In 1998, when Minnesota began developing plans for CVISN, the only available CVIEW system was a limited proof-of-concept model developed by the Applied Physics Laboratory at Johns Hopkins University.
Minnesota turned to Cambridge Systematics, and we developed and deployed the original CVIEWCS . Designed for robust, unattended operation, CVIEWCS has an extensible architecture that allows it to receive, process, and store information from virtually any state or Federal credential or safety system. The Minnesota CVIEWCS solution has been in continuous operation since 2000, and now holds Federal and state data on more than 1.5 million carriers and 2.2 million vehicles.
