Cambridge Systematics: Leadership in Rail Planning (May 12, 2010)

Cambridge Systematics, Inc., is pleased to announce the completion and release of the State Rail Planning Best Practices guidebook. The publication, a collaboration between Cambridge Systematics and the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials’ (AASHTO) Standing Committee on Rail Transportation (SCORT), provides a template for rail plan development and serves as flexible guidance to states launching state rail plans for the first time or for veteran programs looking to renew older plans with an eye to the future—and new funding.

State Rail Planning Best Practices builds on Cambridge Systematics’ extensive national experience in statewide and regional freight and passenger rail planning, operations, policy, and program development.  We have developed state rail plans or are leading rail studies in the states of Minnesota, Florida, Maryland, Missouri, Montana, North Carolina, Texas, Virginia, and Washington State.  Cambridge Systematics also has been active in national rail planning and policy work for more than 20 years, supporting the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT), the National Cooperative Highway Research Program (NCHRP), the National Cooperative Freight Research Program (NCFRP), Association of American Railroads (AAR), and AASHTO.

State Rail Planning Best Practices is now available for purchase via the AASHTO Bookstore.

CS Awarded New Mexico State Rail Plan

Our position as a recognized leader in developing comprehensive state rail plans led to Cambridge Systematics’ selection by the New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) to lead the development of their State Rail Plan.  This Plan, which will be jointly developed by the Cambridge Systematics-led Team and NMDOT staff, will establish a vision for New Mexico’s future in providing a safe, seamless, interconnected, high-performance passenger and freight rail network that expands regional, national, and international mobility choices for New Mexico businesses and travelers. The Plan will include implementation guidance to help position NMDOT to take advantage of emerging Federal planning and funding programs that can facilitate implementation of statewide rail improvements.
