Cambridge Systematics Helps Secure HSIPR and TIGER Grants for Clients Across the Country (April 20, 2010)
Cambridge Systematics, Inc. recently assisted several clients throughout the country secure High-Speed Intercity Passenger Rail (HSIPR) and Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery (TIGER) Grants for transportation projects. The HSIPR and TIGER Grant programs are both part of the U.S. Department of Transportation’s (DOT) American Recovery and Reinvestment Act that created national competitions for innovative transportation projects that promise significant economic benefits to metropolitan areas. Cambridge Systematics worked in partnership with multiple clients on the HSIPR and TIGER Grant applications.
Awarded HSIPR Grants include:
- Vermont Agency of Transportation (VTrans). Cambridge Systematics helped develop three HSIPR grant applications for VTrans, two of which were awarded grants. VTrans received $50 million for improvements to the New England Central Railroad (NECR) trackage that will bring about shorter travel times and improved reliability, and $500,000 for passenger service planning in the State’s Western Corridor.
- Maryland Department of Transportation (MDOT). The U.S. DOT awarded nearly $70 million to the State of Maryland to fund engineering and environmental studies to replace the Baltimore and Potomac Tunnel in Baltimore and the BWI Airport Rail Station in Anne Arundel County. Cambridge Systematics helped MDOT prepare both of these successful grant applications.
Awarded TIGER Grants include:
- Norfolk Southern Corporation. Norfolk Southern Corporation received $105 million for the Crescent Corridor to develop and improve intermodal rail terminals within the multi-state network, supporting growth of long-haul intermodal traffic and diverting long-haul truck vehicle miles traveled from congested highway corridors. Cambridge Systematics prepared the benefit/cost analysis for the grant application.
- Chicago Region Environmental and Transportation Efficiency Program (CREATE). Cambridge Systematics developed the CREATE grant application for the Association of American Railroads, in support of the submission by the Illinois DOT. CREATE received $100 million which will support six projects: three signalization projects along the Indiana Harbor Belt Railroad; a new rail connection; a grade crossing separation in Bridgeview, Illinois; and a package of viaduct improvements in the City of Chicago.
- Navajo Nation and New Mexico DOT. The Navajo Nation received $31 million for safety improvements along US-491, including constructing new lanes, developing turn lanes, intersection improvements, and upgrades to existing signage and markings. The New Mexico DOT partnered with the Navajo Nation to develop the application. Cambridge Systematics prepared the benefit/cost analysis for the project and helped draft the application.
